CTS Ironmongery Limited

CTS Ironmongery Ltd was formed in March 1987 by Michael Balmforth and Philip Netherwood who saw an opportunity to set themselves up in partnership in the ironmongery trade and now are celebrating their 20th year in business.

Their first premises were at the Boulevard in Halifax town centre. But the business quickly outgrew the building and two years later it was relocated to its present site, the Halifax Industrial Centre, Pellon Lane, which is now where the head of office is located.

Over the past 20 years Calder Trade Supplies has established a large and diverse customer base in excess of 2,000 account and cash customers throughout West and South Yorkshire, ranging from national house builders, period restoration companies and large joinery manufacturers to small family-run building and joinery firms and sole traders. Door and window manufacturers, housing associations, shop fitters, local authorities, schools, colleges and building maintenance companies provide the mainstay of Calder Trade Supplies clients as well as an ever increasing retail market.

The Products

Many big name trade brands are stocked in depth including DeWalt, Makita, Bosch, Milwaukee and Paslode, Carlisle Brass, Hoppe, Kirkpatrick, Sia Abrasives and Everbuild adhesives and sealants. Prices are regularly checked to offer customers the best value for money.

With the recent boom in mill and factory conversions for apartments and ats along with new build and general property refurbishment Calder Trade Supplies has set up a dedicated ironmongery contracts division to deal with all customer ironmongery scheduling and quotation requirements with the added option of on-site visits by a member of the contracts team and manufacturer’s representative if required.

The Requirements

When Calder Trade Supplies Ltd was formed in 1987 the two partners had no idea that the business would grow as rapidly as it did. In time this would be the reason that the company had to look at a solution to keep up with the pace of the ever growing business. When the time came for them to invest money and time into the solution, there were many requirements which the management team were to consider making it as painless as possible for a move to a more modern system. They also had to consider what they needed from the software as a tool to take the business into the 21st century, key features such as Special Pricing, Performance related reports, Line by line order pro t, and sales, purchase and stock history available in an instant.

The Solution

The solution to Calder trade supplies ltd problems would be to implement a fully integrated software system. After some time studying the many different software packages available the directors decided to take a look at Merlin business software which they knew was working very successfully in other power tool companies. After seeing what Merlin had to offer the directors knew that they had found the right system. Shortly after their initial meeting with Merlin they soon realised that the software was well above and beyond what they had seen before and many of the modules which they asked about were standard features in the Merlin Package.
